Dr. Lars Brozus

Lars Brozus is Senior Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. SWP is an independent research institute that advises the German parliament (Bundestag) and government as well as international organizations on international affairs. Before joining SWP in 2010, Lars was managing director of the Research Centre (SFB) 700 “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood” at Freie Universität Berlin and served as foreign policy advisor for the German Bundestag.

Lars earned his doctoral degree from the University of Bremen. His research interests include nation- and state-building, democratic and authoritarian governance, the politics of early warning, and improving the research uptake of political organizations. He coordinates the foresight activities at SWP and edited the 2016 research paper “Unexpected, Unforeseen, Unplanned: Scenarios of International Foreign and Security Policy”.
